Then report at cybercrime.gov.in and keep screenshots, phone numbers and transaction IDs.

Digital arrest: No agency arrests anyone over a video call.

  1. A legal notice arrives on your phone and demands you act immediately.Check any notice in CBI's name with ABHAY on CBI's official website before doing anything.
  2. 'Digital arrest' has no legal existence in Indian law (CBI).End the call. A real agency will never keep you on camera.
  3. Officials, hearings or documents that only exist on a call.Talk to someone you trust and contact your local police station in person.
  4. Any demand to move money to prove innocence.Do not pay. If you already paid, call 1930 at once: fast reports help stop the money moving.

WhatsApp 'GhostPairing': The link comes from a friend. The attacker is already inside their account.

  1. An unexpected link, even from a known contact.Don't click. Ask the sender on a call whether they really sent it.
  2. A website asking for your phone number to show you a photo.Never enter your phone number on sites claiming to be WhatsApp or Facebook.
  3. A device-linking prompt or code you did not start.Open Settings > Linked devices and log out any device you don't recognise.
  4. Friends mention odd messages 'from you'.Log out unknown devices, warn your contacts, and report at cybercrime.gov.in.

Got a "CBI notice"?

Check it with ABHAY on CBI's official website (cbi.gov.in) before doing anything. 'Digital arrest' has no legal existence in Indian law.

Scam call, SMS or WhatsApp?

Report the number on Chakshu at sancharsaathi.gov.in so it can be cut off.
